Beginning May 7, 2025, the REAL ID Act (“Act”) will restrict access to certain federal facilities without compliant identification; however, the Act contains an exception for access to court proceedings and services. These activities are considered constitutionally protected and do not require identification compliant with the Act. Therefore, while an acceptable form of identification is required to be shown at courthouse entry, a REAL ID card is not required for entry.
